LEHLOHONOLO Ledwaba, a former world champion boxer from South Africa, has died at the age of 49 due to Covid-19.

According to Supersport reports, Ledwaba died on the way to the hospital, Friday (2/7).

Ledwaba fought in the pro era from 1990 to 2006 and was the IBF super bantamweight champion from 1999 to 2001.

He turned pro in 1990 and nine years later won the IBF title after a points win over Michael Johnson.

He lost the title after losing by TKO in round 6 to Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas, USA, June 2021.

This duel was the undercard of the Oscar De La Hoya vs Javier Castillejo fight, at which time Pacquiao was unknown. The victory over Ledwaba made Pacquiao’s name soar to this day.

Ledwaba retired after losing to Maxwell Awuku in Mafikeng, South Africa, November 2006.

He scored a career 36 wins (23 KOs), 6 losses, and 1 draw.TOR-05
